Next-Generation 911
As the Co-Founder and VP of Product Engineering I was responsible for the product roadmap and technical architecture for Guardly, a private 911 system capable of tracking a person’s location indoors and outdoors while providing real-time voice and text communication during an emergency situation.
The platform consisted of mobile apps on iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone, a cloud-hosted, real-time system for situational awareness, incident management, collaboration and reporting, and a location aware mass messaging system . To create a team capable of this, I recruited, trained, and managed a small team of mobile and backend engineers to deliver next-generation public and private safety solutions.
I received a US Patent (US 8,890,685 B1) for Emergency Notification Using Indoor Positioning for developing a Mobile Mass Notification System (MMNS), a scalable distributed messaging system capable of sending over 500K messages to mobile apps within seconds, and the first mass notification system to provide location targeted message sending based on GPS and indoor location with real- time messaging, and engagement analytics.
The Guardly Command incident management system provides web based incident management and assistance to dispatch personnel for monitoring and managing emergency situations. During an incident, dispatchers can speak with the caller by phone or text and view photos sent by end users of the system. The system is configurable to monitor for alerts within multiple geographical regions using geofencing technology and routing information to multiple security operation centers.
Improving Response During Active Shooter Incidents with Indoor Positioning Systems
This white paper examines how indoor positioning systems (IPS) transform modern smartphones and tablets, already used by most of the population in North America, into devices that be used to determine real-time location inside buildings.
